Mystras Hiking

Hiking and trekking around Mystras: The nature around Mystras is great for physical activities, like hiking, trekking, and climbing. Apart from strolling around the rocky land of the castle, you can also follow some natural paths to explore the surrounding area. The area around Mystras is pretty mountainous and lush green, as it is surrounded by Taygetos, one of the highest mountains in Greece.

A very popular path starts from the village Anavriti. You can take the E4 route, which is a trans-European hiking route, to go to Mystras, Agios Ioannis and Taygheti. There is also a trail from Parori to the church of Panagia Laghadiotissa and the Monastery of Faneromeni.

The trail from Mystras to Taygeti and the monastery of Agios Ioannis Vouvalon is also great, as well as the stroll from the springs of Ai-Giannakis to Trypi and Keadas. Keadas is famous as the gorge where the ancient Spartans used to throw their incapable children.

It is also worth mentioning that in Laghada, an area of Mount Taygetos some km far from Trypi, a climbing park has been formed with many nice paths to follow.
