Kyparissia Armeni

Information about Armeni

Armeni village Kyparissia: Armeni is a lovely village located at a distance of 5 km from the town of Kyparissia. There are several stories associated to the origin of its name. Some say that the first residents of the village were from Armenia. It is also said that it was named after Argonaut Armenos, the grandson of Aeolus, the ancient god of the winds.

In the ancient times, the village was found towards the southern end, where the fountain of Pritzipas is presently located. A column of an old temple has been founded at that point. Later on, due to dominance of Christianity, the temple was converted into a Church.

Armeni has fertile land and that is the principal reason for its agricultural prosperity. The chief crop grown in this village is Okra and Armeni is a large producer of Okra. In fact, in August, there is a festival in Armeni dedicated to Okra.

The houses in Armeni are of traditional style and made of stone. In the middle of the square, there is the church of Agioi Pantes, the patrons of the village. The church dates back to 1877 and bears an oblong shape with the belfry at the front side. Moreover, the village square hosts a Communal Hostel and also a few taverns and coffeehouses.
