General information

Zachlorou village Kalavryta: This mountain village is mainly famous for the magnificent Holy Monastery of Mega Spileo, which is located in a close distance. Around 20-25 km far from Kalavryta, this beautiful village is located right on the banks of Vouraikos River. Much like Kalavryta, the village of Zachlorou gained its freedom in 1821 after the War of Independence and had its men killed by the Germans in December 1943.

The village has many unoccupied stone houses, built before the 1950s, which give visitors a glimpse into life of people during those times. Its people are mostly farmers and produce a lot of fruits such as watermelons and figs, vegetables and some dairy products. There is a church, a school and a square in the village. For medical care and other amenities, people have to go to Kalavryta.

Staying at this village can be quite comfortable with numerous rooms available for rent. The famous Daikofto-Kalavryta funicular railway makes a stop at this village and this place can also be easily hiked.
