The historical town of Gythio is the perfect destination if you want to enjoy the Byzantine architecture in all its glory. Churches and monasteries set in outstanding locations with a great view to the sea, characterize the old town. One of the best attractions is the stone-built church of Agios Dimitrios with an impressive bell tower that dominates the highest point of the town.
The church of Agioi Pantes is set on top of Akoumaros hill overlooking the town of Gythio. The monastery is set in the middle of a pine tree forest. Part of the sightseeing in Gythio and particularly in Marathonisi area is the chapel dedicated to Agios Petros and Agios Pavlos, at the left side of the bridge that connects the land with the islet.
