Towards environmental reform of Epidaurus

• Category: News
A new botanical garden with therapeutic herbs, cultural trails and theme hiking paths that will connect the monuments to each other are just few aspects of the Project for the Environmental Enhancement of the Aklepieion in Ancient Epidaurus, as recently announced by the Greek Ministry of Environment.

Considered among the most important archaeological sites in Greece, Ancient Epidaurus receives a large number of visitors every year and in fact for the period 2012-2013 it was the second most visited Greek ancient site after the Acropolis of Athens.

Through this project, it is meant to make visitors understand how the Asklepieion of Epidaurus used to work in the ancient times and actually how religious worship was combined with natural elements (such as herbs and water) to cure diseases. This project also aims at the lengthening of the tourist period and the economic upgrade of the region.
