This year’s Cannes Festival was one of the most spectacular ones to date, but in our hearts it remains rather special for one specific reason: the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated duet of Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Philippou won the award for Best Screenplay for their latest masterpiece “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”, which was also selected to compete for the prestigious prize of Palme d’Or. The movie that caused a sensation among critiques and audience alike –much like all the other movies of Lanthimos- explores the perplexed relations within a family, the roles of the husband and wife portrayed by Collin Farrell and Nicole Kidman (who also won the 70th-anniversary prize) respectively.

Lanthimos and Philippou, who last year gained international recognition for their indie romantic drama “The Lobster”, as well as an Oscar nomination for the movie script, cooperate for many years and are considered leading forces of the “Weird Wave” cinema current, receiving over time numerous distinctions and awards. The talented partners shared the best screenplay award along Lynne Ramsay, who was also honored for her movie “You Were Never Really There”, while the “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” is programmed for release within the November of 2017.
