Greek Veto on Smoking

The strict non-smoking measures that already apply in other European countries will also be applied in Greece by 2009. The National Action Plan for Smoking presented yesterday Greek Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, in frame of the celebration of the World Health Day. 
The Minister pointed out that the National Plan against smoking “aims to the reduction by 15% of the smokers over 15 years old, as well as by 20% of the teenagers starting to smoke by the year 2012”. 
The related bill anticipates the forbiddance of selling smoke and cigarettes to underage, while the salesmen will have to ascertain the buyers’ age by asking for IDs. An adaptation period of 3 years will be mediated until the complete application of the measures in 2012. Source: "Ta Nea"
