• Category: News
Galileo Program was presented this morning in the offices of the European Parliament by the Greek representatives Margaritis Schinas and Anny Podimata, in presence of the Minister of Transports, Kostis Chatzidakis. GALILEO is a satellite piloting and localization program, as well as an answer to the American GPS. With a cost of 3,4 billion euros for the period 2007-2013, the program will apply to the transportation and communication field, agriculture, topography, fishing and emergency situations, protection of people with special needs. Moreover, the system will be used in the protection of the borders and the fight against stowaways, creating an invisible massive "wall" that will control anything coming in or out the European borders. Mr. Schinas pointed out that "it is the most complicated and demanding act of Europe. If it is successful, Europe will no longer have to depend on the American GPS. The political and strategic importance of this project is huge, since it constitutes the beginning of the emerging European space politics".
