Tour to Dion Olympos
Upon visiting Thessaloniki, you should know that the nearby areas of this wonderful city hide many places of unique natural beauty and major historical importance. In this tour, we will be visiting Dion, a destination at the feet of Olympos mountain that constitutes a significant archaeological site, while we will then have time to admire the nature of the setting by visiting the nearby area. We depart from Thessaloniki at 09.00 and firstly we head to the archaeological site of Dion. Taking its name after Zeus (Dias, in Greek), Dion was a major religious center and place of worship in the antiquity, dedicated to the king of gods. The position of the site is not irrelevant, as the mountain Olympos was considered to be the home of the Greek gods - probably due to its breathtaking beauty and height, as it is Greece’s highest mountain. At Dion, we are going to visit the archaeological site and the museum, where you will have the opportunity to see the wonderful findings of the excavations. Next on, we head to Litochoro, the picturesque village nearby, where you will have free time for a quick lunch and a stroll to admire its traditional charm. Afterwards, we will visit the overgrown valley of Enipeas for a walk, to get a better taste of the unique flora of the mountain and its hidden beauty while afterwards we depart for Thessaloniki, arriving approximately at 18.00.
