General Description

Upon visiting Thessaloniki, you should know that the nearby areas of that enchanting city hide many places of unique natural beauty and significant historical importance.

On this tour, we will visit Dion, a place at the feet of Mount Olympos, which constitutes an impressive archaeological site. We will then have time to admire the nature of the setting by visiting the nearby area.

We will depart from Thessaloniki at 09.00 and first head to the archaeological site of Dion. Named after Zeus (Dias in Greek), Dion was a major religious center and place of worship in antiquity, dedicated to the father of the gods. The site's location is not random, as Mount Olympos was considered the home of the gods - probably due to its breathtaking beauty and height, as it is the highest mountain in Greece. At Dion, we will visit not only the archaeological site but also the museum, where you will have the opportunity to admire the awe-inspiring findings of the excavations.

Next, we will head to Palaios Panteleimonas after a short stop for photos at Stavros. Palaios Panteleimonas is a picturesque, traditional village that is tracked back to the 14th century till the end of WW2 when it was abandoned. You will have free time for a quick lunch and a stroll to admire its traditional setting, featuring narrow stone-paved streets and lovely houses.

Note:
Transfer and English- and Italian-speaking guides are included. The tour does not include the entrance fee to the museum (8€).
