About transportation in Thessaloniki, Greece

A bus network operates from early in the morning till late at night in Thessaloniki and covers all the centre and the suburbs. There are buses from the centre to the airport and the train station and also buses between the Bus Station (KTEL) Macedonia to the Bus Station (KTEL) of Halkidiki, that is located close to the airport. For example, Bus No 78 runs the route from the KTEL Macedonia - City Centre - Airport, while Bus No 45 covers the route KTEL Macedonia - City Centre - KTEL Halkidiki.


There are taxi ranks in many central spots of the town and it is also very easy to stop a taxi at the road. Taxi ranks are found in Aristotle Square, along the Beach Promenade, in Kamara and many other spots. Book your taxi online!

The bronze statue of Alexander the Great on his famous horse Bucephalus, located at the waterfront (Nea Paralia) of Thessaloniki. The monument was sculptured by Evangellos Moustakas in 1974 and with 6.15m in height, it is the largest statue in Greece. Seen are also the formidable sarissas (or sarisa) the famous 4-6m in length spear or pike that was used in Macedonian phalanxes.
