A cooperation agreement between the municipality of Thessaloniki, the Greek State and the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki was signed today for the foundation of a Holocaust Museum at the old train station of the city.

This station is of historical importance for the Jewish Community as this was the departure point for the trains that carried thousands of Jews from Thessaloniki and northern Greece to the Auswitch Concentration Camp. This was how almost the entire Israeli Community of Thessaloniki was exterminated.

According to the plan, the building complex of the museum will expand to about 7,000 sq. m. The museum will be constructed in phases and the project will be funded by the Jewish Community, which now needs to look for financial contribution. The initiative for the construction of this museum was taken by the municipality of Thessaloniki.
