In a recent article, National Geographic includes Thessaloniki among the top 20 world destinations to visit in 2013. In particular, the writer refers to the sparkling harbor of the city that is almost empty and which "remains one of the last urban seafronts in southern Europe not hemmed in by a giant marina".
To get a better view of the city, the writer suggests to walk from Ano Poli (Old Town) of Thessaloniki, the picturesque quarter surrounded by Byzantine walls, to Aristotelous Square on the waterfront.
Apart from Thessaloniki, among the top destinations for 2013 are included Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Grenada, Bodo in Norway, Valparaiso in Chile, Missouri River Banks, Memphis, Saint Augustine in Florida, Kyoto Japan, Uganda, Hudson Valley in New York, Jarash Jordan, Bagan in Myanmar, Quito Ecuador, Malawi, the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada, Ravena, Raja Ampat in Indonesia, Marseille and Crimea Ukraine.
