Category: Zakynthos Alykanas
What a beautiful island which is sadly attracting inaccurate news from the media.
Alykanas features the best restaurant on the island, Cosy Corner, run by Jules and her husband Shortie you can get good old fashioned English food along with Greek dishes and their speciality dishes are amazing! Everything is cooked fresh when you order, even the cakes and desserts are made by Jules' own fair hands. Once we discovered this quaint garden restaurant hidden away from the hustle and bustle, we never went anywhere else! Pop down to Scandals bar also once a week Shortie's band,
Two Short are not to be missed and you will receive a warm welcome from Sue & Nick, I shall be returning despite the media's attempts to destroy this beautiful Country, you will not receive a warmer welcome anywhere in the world!

Category: Zakynthos Porto Roma
Loved the fact that Porto Roma was not developed, even better it was very quiet, the idyllic place for some privacy. I saw a lot of families coming there, as the shallow waters are very safe for children. The beach is small and it is a tourist attraction but it never gets really crowded (at least before noon). The crystal water combined with the green landscape offer a feeling of refreshment.

Category: Zakynthos Banana
Not matter how many people will go to Banana, it never gets packed! It is such a long beach that you feel ample and spacey to lay your towel and relax. Children loved the soft sand and made some gorgeous castles! This was their favorite beach and my adult daughter loved the watersports. First time to ride a banana (on the Banana beach, ha!) and she is still excited about it. She keeps asking me if we are going to Zante next summer. We are split in going to Zante again or try its neighbor, Kefalonia. But will Kefalonia have so beautiful beaches, like Banana?

Category: Zakynthos Gerakas
One of the best beaches on the island. A bit far from tourist resorts, but this is good for me. Only you have to go by car. The beach is gorgeous and so long. I was surprised to look at it from above, so long and clean. The blue water was glittering under the hot sun. The sand was so soft and hot, it was burning to walk on it (of course, this was our hottest day on Zakynthos, 42oC). Water was so refreshing and my sweating son didn't want to get out of the sea for two hours!! Frankly, an awesome beach!!

Category: Zakynthos Laganas
If you have passed your 20s, you can't really appreciate Laganas, I guess. Me, way over my 50s, I found Laganas quite unattractive, but I saw that the youths there enjoyed a lot its loud clubs and noisy beach parties. Just a matter of age and tastes...

Category: Zakynthos Laganas
Laganas is the most crowded beach on Zakynthos. Fortunately, it is very big (about 9 km, as I read) and people can have room between each other on the beach. Our hotel was right above the main resort, as many other hotels. In the daytime, the atmosphere is joyful and nice. Taverns and cafeterias were full and streets of Laganas were busy. At night, when clubs open, the area gets a bit noisy and annoying. As Laganas is mostly visited by British, you will see some British youngsters drunk in the early hours. When it was getting dark, we would preferably leave Laganas to have our dinner in another village, quieter.

Category: Zakynthos Navagio or Shipwreck
We went to Navagio by taxi boat (the excursion also included Marathonisi and Keri caves). This is the beach you see in all posters and travel guides of Zakynthos, an amazing beach with picturesque ambience and crystal water. Probably the best beach on the island. I just wish it wasn't so crowded when we went, I believe I would have enjoyed more my time there.

Category: Zakynthos Navagio or Shipwreck
Our excursion to Navagio left us with the best pictures to remember from Zakynthos. These are the cleanest water I have ever seen. The water was like crystal, pure and great crystal! I am sad to see that some peope do not respect the environment and pollute the beaches, but fortunately this is not the case with Navagio. Please keep this beach safe and clean, it is the treasure of Zakynthos!

Category: Zakynthos Tsilivi
Tsilivi has a long safe beach. You can walk out for miles without worry of undercurrents or attacks from jellyfish. The area itself is safe and not overtaken by larger louts. There are enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every night - in fact we have been two years running and only went into Popeyes Restaurant more than once. The bars are friendly and there is something for everyone. We often walked along the beach late at night and the water was still warm enough to paddle in, and we never felt threatened as everyone is friendly. There is a bowling alley for those who have teenage children who need entertaining, horse drawn carriage which take you around the resort, crazy golf, reptile house, play areas for children including a bucking bronco and gocart (for the under 5s) and artists who will paint your picture and henna tattoist who will paint your body.
We have never had a bad meal in any of the restaurants in Tsilivi. The prices are cheap. As a family of five (all eating adult courses) I never paid more than 50 euros for main course including drinks. Popeyes is a well know restaurant which is situated in a prominent site. We drank in Enigma every night and everyone is welcoming. Enigma is also a nightclub which had a hypnotist in one night a week. All ages were welcome. It is worth wondering all over the resort as there are restaurants and bars hidden in side streets as well as on the main road. Planet pub is also another favourite with karaoke, dancing and friendly bar staff.

Category: Zakynthos Alykes
Alykes is so welcoming and you feel completely safe. Never once felt uncomfortable walking around at night. The beach and sea is just the best. Like stepping into a warm bath. This is what Alykes is all about, wonderful beach. The people in Alykes are lovely. The tavernas serve wonderful food at any time you want it. The people go out of their way to make you welcome. Add to that the sunshine. There is nothing else you could want. If you walk up the mountains you get a picture of the history of the place and other attractions are just a boatride away. Interesting scenery. Because of the salt flats it is slightly different. Maybe a little clean up between the Astoria and Montreal Hotel is needed, but it really isn't a problem. Somehow adds to the charm!
The local food is exquisite. You should always be tasting local cuisine when you visit a different country. For those people who are more fussy they serve a variety of foods from all other countries. So there is something for everyone. There is only one restaurant we would not return to.
Go to Alykes. Stay at the Montreal and sit on the beach, enjoying the sunshine and view. Visit a different Taverna every evening. You will come back totally refreshed. I am told Argassi is also a lovely place.
