Young kids cleaned Kalamaki beach

• Category: News
The students of Kalamaki Nursery School took an important initiative last Friday, cleaning the beach of Kalamaki from rubbish. This beach is environmentally important as many caretta-carettas, a protected species of sea turtles, go there to lay their eggs on the soft sand. Moreover, other protected animals and birds live close by. The children aged 4-6 years old cleaned a large part of the beach and gathered much trash, including plastic bags and other useless items. They learned thus that man has to live in harmony with the environment, which is a very valuable lesson in our days. Among others, their nursery teacher, Mrs Evgenia Schiza, stressed out that the National Marine Park of Zakynthos must also take initiatives to protect all beaches of the island, which have been characterized as protected areas.
