The Folklore Museum of Lefkadian Embroidery is located in the village Karia, 14 km from Lefkada Town and it houses a private collection. It was established in the 1990's by Theodoros Katopodis in honor of Maria "Koutsohero" Stavraka (186?-1948), the biggest embroidery artist in this area who created the traditional stitching style "karsaniki".
The museum consists of 2 levels.
The ground floor houses original antique furniture and everyday objects you would typically find in a traditional house of Lefkada. Many of these items date back to the 18th and the 19th centuries.
The upper floor is focused on embroidery. The textiles of this exhibition allow you to explore the traditional patterns of embroidery in Lefkada.
