Creating a museum to Angelos Sikelianos
To honour the great poet Angelos Sikelianos, the Municipality of Lefkada and Greek National Bank decided to restore the house he grew up on the island and turn it into a museum. As announced, the Museum of Angelos Sikelianos will be ready in about two years and will include personal items of the poet, his photographs, printed works and other manuscripts. However, as time flies, the Cultural Centre of Lefkada invites anyone who wants to donate something that can be exhibited in the museum, to refer it with a letter to the municipality.
Angelos Sikelianos was born in Lefkada in 1884. His first poems were published in 1909 and since then he has influenced a lot the Greek Literature. In 1927, he tried to establish the Delphic Festival, but his effort failed due to lack of money. In 1949, he was a candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature but didn't get the prize. He died accidentally in 1951 at the age of 65.
