Kreatopita Meat Pie

Kreatopita is actually meat pie. This is the most famous dish of Kefalonia. It is widely-known for its good taste. The recipe for kreatopita is different from one village of Kefalonia to another. The common feature is that you need lamb to make a good mea

- 1 kilo of lamb without bones
- 1 cup of boiling rice
- 1 onion julienne
- parsley
- 3 gloves of garlic
- 1 tin of tomato sauce
- olive oil
- salt and pepper
- 1 pack of filo pastry

Cut the meat in small pieces. Do not buy minced meat, just a whole part and then cut it into small pieces. Into a big frying pan, put some olive oil and saute the onion julienne. Then add the meat pieces and keep sautéing until it gets pretty dry. Add the tomato sauce, salt and pepper. In the continuation, add the rice and blend well. If the filling is too dry, add some water. Once it is ready, leave it to get cold. Now oil a large baking pan and 3-4 filo pastries. Then put these oiled filo pastries at the bottom of the pan and add the filling on top of them. Put another 3-4 filo pastries on top. Bake the pie at medium temperature (180oC) for one hour.
