Take care of the island

I chose Corfu as I had heard from many sources that it a very nice island to spend your vacations. I had expected awesome landscapes and beaches, cordial people, good typical food, excellent weather, lot of nightlife, but this was not exactly the case. Indeed the island offers beautiful landscapes, excellent beaches (especially on the west coast), a lot of places to visit and activities to do (I love sea activities). As for nightlife, Ipsos is like downtown of Naples and in Kavos, if you’re not English, then you’re not! There are nice bars and clubs anywhere else!

What impressed me more was that on the way back no controls were made on people, I could be bringing anything on me even bombs or drugs!!! I also think that something should be done on behalf of the authorities to clean the area. There are not enough places to throw your garbage, especially on the beaches, and the public transportation should be ameliorated, too.

Hi, just returned from a week in Ipsos & want to say how great the food was @ Moby Dicks & Alberts Drop In. I'd recommend everyone to try both restaurants if you're near Ipsos. Would also recommend he Hairy Lemon for a great breakfast & really friendly service from Kostas & staff.

From the information obtained on the Internet, it looked like the ideal place for a holiday. We hired a car and apart from pre-ooking 2 nights accommodation at a hotel in Corfu Town, we did not have any other accommodation booked before. We travelled round the north east coast and down the north west and stayed at several places. We spent 2 nights in Corfu Town, 1 night Kassiopi and 2 nights in Agios Georgios. Unfortunately had several thunderstorms with torrential rain during our stay. Tried several tavernas and all were good. The prices on the island were also good. A piece of advice for future visitors: Visit Corfu Town, Kalami, Kassiopi and Agios Georgios Pagon (there's a beautiful beach there) and give Sidari a miss, it's too commercialized.

Some things still missing

We had visited Corfu 20 years ago and last summer we decided to go again for our wedding anniversary. It is still a beautiful island, full of green and nice beaches. The local people are very friendly, the local cuisine excellent. It was a lot of fun motorcycling around the island. Gouvia was a great base for excursions. You shouldn't leave the island without visiting Paleokastritsa. It is a place that perfectly combines nightlife, activities, peace and quiet. However there are several things missing. For example, toilet facilities plumbing are not brilliant. Also, the water tasted bad and we had to drink mineral water. Regular bus services to Corfu Town and the airport would also be really helpful.

Not much nightlife for my taste

Before getting to Corfu, I already knew what to expect. Great sea and beaches, good weather, many places to visit, traditional Greek food and good people. The green and blue landscapes were amazing and some villages very picturesque. There was not much nightlife for my taste, nor where there many activities to do. I'd say it's a peaceful and quiet island. However there are some things that should be taken care of by the local authorities, such as parking areas and traffic in Kerkyra town and the cleanliness of certain beaches, like the Canal d’ Amour.

We spent our last holidays in Sidari. The main drag in Sidari is like Blackpool - The Magic Wok, Karaoke Bars, People giving out flyers to get you in to places, jam packed, no sign of anything or anyone Greek. But we stayed at a nice apartment right on the outskirts and ate Greek food in friendly restaurants and had a great time. Wonderful beach and very pleasant people.
Nightlife is lively in the main part of Sidari and we were sold a quiet, family holiday. THIS IS NOT SO. Even though we were as far away from the main drag as we could be, whilst still being in Sidari, we could hear the Karaoke from our apartment.
The food is traditional Sunday lunch and home cooked North Sea fish and chips. If you search, you'll find proper Greek cuisine in lovely restaurants and tavernas. Steer clear of the main drag. When we found restaurants that served traditional dishes, it was superb.
Not a single bad experience.
If you have children, go visit Aqualand, this is a fantastic day out. We spent a whole day there and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Don't stay on the main drag if you have children. If you are 21 and up for fun, you'll love it.

Be careful with taxi drivers

I chose Corfu as I have some Greek friends there. I am a dedicated Grecophile who loves Greece, her people, history, language and culture. I had visited Corfu on a previous occasion and thought it was absolutely beautiful. The scenery is stunning, the people friendly and the island is so easy to travel around. We stayed for four days before traveling by ferry to Parga. Apart from the couple of stormy days, the weather was perfect. Kommeno Bay was a quiet area, perfect to wind down and chill out. Our hotel was beautiful and Vicki and Fondas who run it were extremely welcoming and helpful. They made our stay in Corfu a great pleasure. I wasn't there for a beach holiday, so I can't suggest any beach. My favourite activity on the island was walking. What I didn't like was the prices charged by taxi drivers. My advice is to arrange a price and make sure the taxi meter is turned on. If you try to insist on this, then you're told to use another taxi. Driver wanted to charge 30 Euro from airport to Kommeno Bay. We said it was too much and he walked away. A driver called Akis saved the day and his price was much less. I'd like to go again someday. The scenery is stunning, the people friendly and the island is so easy to travel around. We stayed for four days before traveling by ferry to Parga. Like other people, my wife and I have been going to Corfu for the last 20 years, staying at different resorts, it is a lovely Island, and we love corfiot food. We have over the years made many good friends on the Island, and it's always great to see them each year.
Our favourite place is San Stefanos in the N West, but there are many lovely places for instance visit or stay at Liapades, Paleokastritsa, and Aghios Giorgios in the north.- I'm sure you will love it

Hello! I’m Brigitte Bentham, British, and I have been going to Corfu since 1983. This summer, I stayed for a month. My friends and relatives live there and we often go to visit. This island is the loveliest place; once you go there, you want to return. The food is delicious and homemade; in fact the local tavernas are among the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The beaches are clean, my favorite one is Agios Stefanos, in the north-west of the island. It is a place worth visiting. You should definitely go to Corfu, walk the coastal path, through the olive groves and embrace its culture.

Corfu has it all. Beautiful beaches, fantastic food, plenty bars to party in and a wonderful setting. I have been holidaying in Corfu for many years and have stayed in all parts of the island from Sadari to Kavos and it always amazing me. The local people are so friendy and enjoy life to the full. There really is something for all ages and tastes, wether you like to party down in Kavos or chill out with hollywood stars in Dassia. If you have never been to Corfu, take a chance and go, you wont regret it.
