Gerald Durrell's book My Family and Other Animals was the theme behind BBC's upcoming film that transported Corfu back to the 1930s. Corfu was the island where Durrell had spent most of his childhood days and as part of the story, the Ionian island played a major role in the book. First published in 1956, the book made Durrell himself, as well as the island, famous.
The film is due to be shown on BBC, on Christmas Day, in Britain. It features Oscar-nominated actress, Imelda Staunton who plays the role of Gerald Durrell's mother.
