Oct 01, 2013 — Jun 30, 2014 • Category: Events
The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu is presenting an exhibition entitled Treasured Journeys until June 30th, 2014. A collection of Central Asian rugs and textiles are exhibited, along with Indian and Asian jewelry, Indian miniature paintings, books on textile and magazines, such as the HALI. All exhibits belonged to the Collection of Jason Deighton-Sarzetakis and was donated to the museum in 2011.

His parents, Yiannis Sarzetakis and Ruth Deighton, started forming this collection years ago, with rugs of the Baluch tribes and Central Asian textiles, in their many travels to Asia. Unique rugs originally made by Baluch and Turkmen nomads, silk ikats from Uzbekistan, gold and silver jewelry with precious stones from Samarkand and Bukhara are also on display. Following this exhibition, a permanent display will be set in the near future in the museum.

The Museum of Asian Art is housed in the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George in Corfu Town, just few steps from Liston Avenue. This is the only museum in Greece dedicated to Asian culture and over the last years, it has become very active with important exhibitions and lectures.
