Exhibition on Hearn's Unfamiliar Japan

The exhibition Lafcadio Hearn. The Unfamiliar Japan that has opened since January 5th, 2016 at the Museum of Asian Art in Corfu will continue until May 31st, 2016, Presenting a world that seems unfamiliar not only to Westerners but also to Japanese, this exhibition includes first editions, original writings and selected essays of Lafcadio Hearn, translated in French, German and Japanese. All books come from the private collection of Takis Efstathiou. Curator of the exhibition is Mrs Despina Zernioti, director of Corfu Asian Art Museum.

Lafcadio Hearn (or else Yakumo Koizumi as is his Japanese name) was born in June 1850 in Lefkada island to an Irish father and a Greek mother. During his childhood, he moved to Dublin, then to the USA at the age of 19 and finally in Japan, where he married to a local woman and studied the Japanese art, literature and culture. He died in 1904 and today is considered the National poet of Japan.
