Easter Festivities in Corfu are a truly magical experience. Wondering why is that? Keep reading to find out!
If you want to experience seven days full of traditional customs and glorious events, then head to Corfu. It's hard to find a better place in Greece to celebrate Easter!
The spectacular festivities start on Palm Sunday and culminate on Great Saturday and Easter Sunday. One of the most interesting traditional customs takes place on Great Sunday in Corfu Town at 11.00 am, when locals and tourists start throwing clay pitchers from their balconies, while the church bells ring joyfully.
Even though this custom is the essence of the Corfiot Easter, what one should really watch, is what happens after the Resurrection of the Christ on Great Saturday. At midnight, spectacular fireworks light up the sky and that's when the real feast begins! Plenty of wine, delicious food and music get the celebrations going until the first morning lights!
One thing is for sure, Corfu knows how to celebrate one of the biggest religious feasts of the Orthodox church!
