Corfu has always occupied a special place as an island with strong cultural identity. Given the creativity of the Corfiots and their talent to mark out together with MP Angela Gerekou, who is a permanent resident of the island, they managed to brought into realization the foundation of the Center for Ionian Island Culture. Most importantly, it has set a special goal as to bring cultural awareness and improve the tourist activity of the Ionian Islands. The Center has a remarkable team of notable musicians and inspiring people, while the artistic director is the young award winning Corfiot clarinet soloist Dionysis Grammenos. This non-profit organization will initiate the 1st Corfu Arts Festival focusing on the orchestral music, which will be held in Corfu from July 8th to 11th. This newborn festival aims to combine the musical tradition and the theatrical quality of the Ionian Islands. The people who attend this cultural celebration will have the chance to see unique performances starting in Corfu's Palace of St Michael and St George, on July 8th. The following day there will be a concert with the pianist Sonja Park at Achilleion Palace, while on July 10th Dionysis Grammenos will give a performance accompanied by the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
