It got its present crescent shape at about 1,650 B.C. when an enormous volcanic eruption took place and made almost half of the island sink. Today, the caldera of Santorini is the only caldera in the world filled with seawater. In the middle of the caldera, there is the top of the volcano, which can be visited by excursion boat from the old port of Fira.
In Santorini, do not miss the sunset from Oia and a walk around the paved streets of Fira, Oia, Firostefani, and Imerovigli. On the southern side of the island, there are also long beaches to enjoy the sea. Although it is tourist-developed, the atmosphere of Santorini is ideal for relaxing and getting away from daily routine.
The next destination is Crete, the largest island of Greece. The diverse landscape, the lovely beaches, the archaeological sites, the historical castles, and the cozy villages make visitors welcome in the adorable place. Heraklion and Chania are the most famous towns of Crete, but a drive around the island will bring you ahead of unexpected beauty.
