The Polygnotos Vagis Sculpture Museum on Thassos, Eastern Aegean: In the mountainous village of Potamia, only 12 kilometers from Limenas, the capital of Thassos is the Polygnotos Vagis Sculpture Museum. Polignotos Vagis, a famous Greek sculptor, was born in Potamia in 1892 and in 1911 he immigrated to the United States where he gained recognition for his works in sculpture and painting until his death in 1965.

The Sculpture Museum dedicated to the life and the works of Polygnotos Vagis opened its doors to the public in August of 1981. It is housed in a two-storey stone building, the old primary school at the center of the village. Today the museum displays 98 sculpture works and 15 paintings created during the period 1920-1960.

The first works of art of Vagis that were made between 1919-1930 are inspired by the ancient Greek history and mythology while the works that were made in the second period, from 1932 and on distinguishing for their abstraction. The artists worked mainly with marble and plaster. Most of the works are figures and heads, fish and well-shaped moons.
