General information

Marathos Village Ikaria: This is a lovely coastal village located 36km northwest of Agios Kirikos, the capital of Ikaria. Marathos used to be the old capital of Ikaria, since 1841 when it was replaced by Agios Kyrikos. The beautiful settlement is perched high on the mountain sides.

The village distinguishes for the collection of beautiful houses and picturesque paved streets. There are few remains of windmills left around Marathos today and in other settlements like Perdiki and Fradato. Towards the end of summer, small religious festivals are organized to honor their protector saint. These festivals take place in the square of the village and includes lots of traditional food and dancing.
