Sightseeing: 20 things to see in Ikaria island

Ikaria got its name from Icarus, the boy who was drowned into the sea after the sun burnt his wings when flying. It is a lush green island with gorgeous beaches, the perfect laid-back place. Swimming in fantastic beaches and hiking are the most popular things to do in Ikaria. Some of the beaches are secluded and naturist, such as Nas beach. The green nature, the ruined sightseeing and the cozy villages in the inland form nice hiking chances for visitors. Halari Gorge, in particular, is a nice place for hiking in Ikaria, leading to the ancient temple of Artemis and Nas beach for a swim.

This magnificent gorge is found close to Nas beach and it is a great area to stroll around, with natural lakes, plane trees, small waterfalls and stone bridges.

This island is quiet and somehow isolated from the tourist destinations. It has only a few tourist amenities because it has not yet been much developed. Fourni would be a nice two-day excursion from Ikaria.
