Jul 29, 2003 — Aug 10, 2003 • Category: Events
The local government of Samos has organized some events to include in the French Cultural Week, which starts from today and lasts till August, 10th. As a remarkable example, we mention the Kalomiris Festival of Samos which is held for the seventh time to pay attribute to this great Greek composer. The French Week is held thanks to the fine collaboration between the French Embassy, the French Institute in Athens and the Angouleme Festival. Both Greek and foreign artists are allowed to take part in this festival. The young pianist Carolos Zouganelis will interpret Bach’s Goldberg Variations in Karlovasi and Vathi. Elena Mouzala, Loic Poulain and Pierre Champagne will present works of Haydn, Kuhlau, Kalomiris and others. Moreover, the Mikis Theodorakis Popular Orchestra will honour the important poet Yannis Ritsos at the National Stadium of Karlovasi and the composer Dimitris Papadimitriou has prepared a concert dedicated to another famous Greek poet, Konstantinos Kavafis. Apart from these musical events, there will be a photo exhibition on Samos presenting the work of Axel Arno, who is also a film director, apart from a photographer.
