Revealing the underwater wealth

• Category: News
After thousands of years hidden in the bottom of the sea, the underwater caves of Lesvos island finally reveal their magic! The oceanographer Vassilis Gerovassiliou from the Aegean University  began for the first time to explore the crowd of organisms that are hidden there, till 30 metres deep, where innumerable different organisms live. These rare fauna have been little studied until today, so their exploration will be a unique experience for every diver.  Others with bright colours, others with elaborate morphological characteristics, these organisms live care-free in underground labyrinths, like multicoloured sponges and small, yellow corals. Through this research, there will be an attempt for the first time to elect unknown up to today aspects of the Greek marine wealth, with particular ecological and economic interest, aiming to protect more effectively the underwater environment.
