Petrified Forest in the 7 Wonders of Nature?

The Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos and the union Friends of the Petrified Forest announced that the Petrified Forest of Lesvos island is officially candidate for the global online competition on the 7 wonders of nature. Here it must be noted that the Petrified Forest was created 20 million years ago and constitutes one of the most important and beautiful monuments of our geological heritage.
The citizens are called to support the candidacy of the Petrified Forest and participate to the worldwide vote that happens for the first time. Whatever the result will be, the massive participation will contribute to the promotion of Lesvos natural heritage, as well to the worldwide promotion of the island itself.
The voting procedure of all candidates will be completed on 7 July 2009, when the 77 partaking sites will be chosen. Afterwards, 21 of them will be elected and the vote will be repeated. In the autumn of 2010 the 7 Wonders of Nature will be raised.
The votes through the internet are estimated to overcome 1 billion.
