Maritime Week begins

Yesterday, on Sunday, June 29, the celebrations have begun for the Maritime Week that takes place on the island of Lesvos. The events will last till next Sunday, 6 July, and they are organized by the Municipality of Lesvos, the Merchant Marine and the Navy, as well as the Port Fund and the Prefecture of Lesvos. Among others, the events include Rowing Races, Fishing Competitions, Torch-Races and Dance and Music shows. The program is as following:
Sunday, June 30: Rowing races- Lesvos Port, 18.00 a.m.
Monday, June 30: Public feast - Varia little port, 20.30 a.m.
Tuesday, July 1: Children painting competition – Sapfous Square, 18.30 a.m. and Shadow Theater – Skala Pamfilon Park, 21.00 a.m.
Wednesday, July 2: Torch-Races, Games and Constructions, Fishing Competition- Sapfous Square- from 16.00 to 20.00 a.m. Shadow Theater - Charamida Beach, 21.00 a.m. Dance and Music show – Tsamakia Beach, 21.00 a.m.
Thursday, July 3: Traditional dances - Epano Skala, 21.00 a.m. Photography exhibition- Epano Skala, 20.30 a.m. Shadow Theater, Tsamakia Beach, 21.00 a.m.
Friday, July 4: Water polo games at the Lesvos Swimming Pool, 18.30 a.m., Shadow Theater- Panagiouda, 21.00 a.m.
Saturday, July 5: Visit to sailing boats and informing about sailing at the waterfront, 16.00-21.00 a.m.
Sunday, July 6: Ending ceremony of the Maritime Week 2008, dancing and music event at the Sapfous Square, fireworks, 21.00 a.m.
A photography exhibition focusing on the "seabed" will be on display all the weekdays long, in cooperation with the Science of the Sea Department, Aegean University- Sapfous Square.
