1st Aegean Documentary Festival

Starting from this year, the islands of Eastern Aegean have their own documentary festival. The 1st Aegean International Documentary Festival will start on December 8th and will last till December 11th. Screenings will take place in the Municipal Theatre of Mytilene in Lesvos, where discussions with Greek and foreign directors have also been planned.

With the contribution of the University of the Aegean, the screenings and other events will be transmitted live in the islands of Chios, Lemnos, Samos, Syros, Rhodes, Ikaria, Ai-Stratis and Fourni. The schedule of this first festival includes awarded movies, such as the Academy-awarded documentary film Looking for Sugar Man (2012) by Malik Bendjelloul and Blood Brother (2013) by Steve Hoover.

Many Greek documentaries will also be screened, including the successful film Kisses to the Children- Filia eis ta paidia (2011) by Vassilis Loules. The festival will take place in different island every year. For 2014, it will take place in September in Chios.
