    Families love the beach
Vatera beach is the biggest beach of Lesvos. I was there for two months, July and August, and I usually went there for swimming every day. It is a sandy beach of 7 km and totally protected from the summer strong winds. When I saw the beach for the first time, it seemed to extend forever. I loved the crystal clear waters, it is an ideal place for swimming, water sports, fishing or even sailing. It is very safe for the children as the water is shallow for some meters long. We mostly spent our time there reading books, though sometimes it was very crowded but that wasn't really a problem. Some days we went early in the morning and we enjoyed the peacefulness of the place while drinking our coffee. There are plenty of picturesque taverns and restaurants in the area. Also there are many bars and cafes for a lovely evening walk.
