Agrotourism Festival 2009

The 5th Agrotourism Festival of Chios will be held this year from August 6th to 11th, 2009. Coorganized by the Municipality of Chios and Chios Tourism Department, this Agrotourism Festival will take place in the Municipal Garden of Chios Town. Many local producers and agricultural cooperatives will participate, presenting their products and promoting the unique products of Chios, like mastic, tulips, ceramics, handmade jewerly and biological products. This festival gets very popular and has become a summer institution for the island. Last year, about 60 producers took place in this agricultural exhibition and about 20,000 people visited it.  Of course, the main product to be presented will be mastic, the most famous product of Chios island, from which the locals make pastries, sweet spoons and even cosmetics and bevegares. Chios is the only place in Greece to produce mastic and one of the few places around the world. Its cultivation started in the ancient times and it continues till today, mostly in the southern part of the island.
