General information

Salakos in Rhodes, Dodecanese: This wonderful village is located 38 km south of Rhodes town. The fountains with the crystal clear waters that feed the rich vegetation, the olives groves and the vines create a magnificent landscape. This is a village well-maintained, enough to be recognized as traditional with all the customs and folklore elements that locals have preserved. Salakos reveals a special archaeological interest surrounded by ruins and traces from the Hellenistic period and a few churches from the Byzantine times.

Close to the end of the village there is the cave of Makarouna which is easily accessible and in a short distance from the village, in the coastal side, there are ruins of three cities of Ancient Rhode, a sight that is worth visiting. Salakos combines a mountainous and a coastal beauty that is worth to explore.
