Need to restore the Medieval Palace

• Category: News
The entire Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes needs repairings and conservation, according to archaeologists, to avoid a similar incident that happened about a year ago, when part of the ramparts on the southern tower (present entrance) fell down. The Ministry of Cultura has decided to restore entirely this Medieval monument, which is visited by more tourists than any other monument on the island. The Palace of Grand Master was almost in ruins till the 1930s, when the Italian rulers decided to restore it. However, the methods and the material they used were not the appropriate, which brings up the present problems. Apart from the restoration, the Archaeological Service will also remove many excessive cargo that are found close to the Palace, such as some oil tanks, and will instal a system of antiseismic protection.
