British Tourist Sentenced for Murder

• Category: News

A British tourist was sentenced to 20 years to jail yesterday for the murder of a British teenager in August 2003. The 22-year old Peter Navarro, from northwest England, was found guilty of killing 17-year old Paddy Doran by stabbing him on the neck with a broken bottle during a fight at the infamous seaside resort of Faliraki, Rhodes. The victim was also English. The argument of Navarro's defense lawyers that their client acted merely in self-defense was rejected by the court. Navarro has already spent a year in prison on the island of Kos after a closed-door arraignment during which he was charged with first-degree murder. The murder of Paddy Doran, as well as various other incidents involving drunken British tourists, led to a police crackdown in Faliraki , which has quiet a reputation for its rowdy atmosphere and frequent fistfights.
