Patmos Hiking

Patmos offers a total of eight marked routes, a part of the program Greek Paths of Culture! The selected paths can take you around some of the island's most picturesque spots or have you exploring settlements, villages, and some of the finest beaches of Patmos!

Below are all the recommended, marked, and signposted trails that one can follow on Patmos.
We highly recommend that all hikers carry enough water, take the necessary sun protection measures, and wear shoes suitable for hiking. For the longer trails, it is best to bring food and basic first aid supplies.

• Trail 1: Skala – Chora – Skala

This trail from Skala passes by the Holy Monastery (Cave) of the Apocalypse, the Theological School of Patmos (Patmian School), and lots of pine and cypress trees.
Length: 1.7 kilometers
Duration: 40 minutes

• Trail 2: Aporthianos (Chora – Skala)

Walking this trail connecting Chora to its port gives you the chance to see some of the island's windmills and enjoy panoramic views.
Length: 2.4 kilometers
Duration: 45 minutes

• Trail 3: Archaeological site of Kastelli

A loop around Skala and the ancient city, this trip to Kastelli will offer you a nice walk through the countryside and excellent views.
Length: 3.2 kilometers
Duration: 2 hours

• Trail 4: Chora – Grikos – Diakofti

Start from the eastern part of Chora and reach the seaside Grikos settlement, before walking further south towards the remote Diakofti and the homonym beach of Diakofti.
Length: 3 kilometers
Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes

• Trail 5: Chora – Kipοi – Holy Monastery of the Annunciation

This excellent route around Chora's western side passes by a field of citrus fruit trees and carob trees, as well as vineyards and a plethora of old wells.
Length: 2.5 kilometers
Duration: 2 hours

• Trail 6: Stavros – Prasovouno – Psili Ammos – Stavros

This is a trail of moderate difficulty that starts from Diakofti, leading you to steep cliffsides offering a challenging hike, as well as multiple spots with fantastic views.
Length: 6 kilometers
Duration: 3+ hours

• Trail 7: Vaghia – Agios Demetrios – Kathisma t’ Apollou – Panaghia Geranou – Livadi Geranou – Vaghia

Visit multiple churches and shores of Patmos, including Agios Dimitrios, Kathisma t' Apollou, Panagia Geranou, Livadi Geranou, and Agioi Pantes. You will also encounter a few standout countryside plants, such as wild lavender.

Duration: 5 hours

• Trail 7a: Livadi Geranou (Delipothitou), Panaghia Geranou, Rema Geranou, Livadi Geranou

This alternate route takes you through the entire region of Geranou.
Duration: 1 hour and 45 minutes

• Trail 8: Chora – Profitis Ilias

Begin your journey from the southern part of Chora and travel northeast to the island's tallest point, the chapel of Prophet Elias.
Length: 1 kilometer
Duration: 30 minutes
