The Folklore Museum in Patmos, Dodecanese: This small private museum is housed in the mansion of Simantiri Family in Chora Patmos. This elegant mansion was constructed in 1625 by craftsmen from Izmir Turkey and it is still inhabited to this day.
The rich collection is very interesting and contains items from the 14th until the 19th century. Among them, visitors can see Russian style icons, wooden furniture, paintings, old photographs, family heirlooms mainly from Odessa and a foot-operated dental wheel. The museum may be small but it gives a clear view on the way of living of the aristocracy of the Dodecanese a couple of centuries ago.
