14th Festival of Sacred Music

Unique in its kind, the Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos takes place for the 14th consecutive year. Events will be held outside the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse from August 29th until September 3rd, 2014. On this special occasion that combines artistic excellence and high musical performances, artists and choirs present works of both Orthodox and Catholic tradition.
This year, the program of the Festival of Sacred Music in Patmos has many interesting events. There is special tribute to the famous Greek artist El Greco (Domenicos Theotokopoulos) on the occasion of his 400th death anniversary and the Greek music composer Manos Hadjidakis on the occasion of his 20th death anniversary.
The Greek artist Pantelis Thalassinos will also perform for the Environment Day, while the festival includes silent films accompanied by live music. In detail, the schedule of the 14th Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos is as follows:

The Byzantine Choir "Saint Andrew of Crete" performs Byzantine, post-Byzantine and contemporary hymns, emphasizing on Cretan and Constantinople chanting tradition.
Saturday, August 30th, 2014
A night dedicated to two great Greeks: El Greco and Manos Hadjidakis
The first part includes video projection of religious works made by the great Greek painter, accompanied by classic musical pieces and brief biographical texts (in Greek and English). The second part includes video projection about Manos Hadjidakis, texts about his life and performance of the sign cycle At the Roman Agora.

Concert by Greek signer Pantelis Thalassinos dedicated to the Environment Day.
Monday, September 1st, 2014
Projection of the legendary silent movie The Gold Rush by Charlie Chaplion, accompanied in the piano with well-known pieces by Andreas Zafiropoulos.
Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014
Projection of the famous silent movie The Passion of Joan of Arc directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer (1928) with original music especially composed for the film.
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
The Children Choir of Corfu is performing an exceptional vocal ensemble with choral works from Corfu and other parts of Greece. Some songs are traditional and others are classical.
All events start at 8:30 and entrance is free.
