The Turkish Bath is a historic building located in Kos Town, behind the courthouse and at the passage to Platanos Square. Also known as the Salt Warehouse, it served as a women-only Ottoman bath from the mid-17th century up until 1948, then as a salt deposit till the 1980s. Considered the only original hamam still standing in the entire Dodecanese region, it boasts major historical and architectural interest and has been operating as a museum since 2010.
The seemingly unassuming structure boasts a simple facade, white-washed walls, and tiles. Inside, visitors will see a spacious circular room that houses nine separate baths, each covered with a waterproof dome with small openings for sunlight to shine through. An old scale originating from the building’s time as a salt deposit can be seen in the hall. Information boards are plastered on the walls, providing historical and cultural information about the bathhouse.
Those interested in visiting can do so from 08:30 to 15:00 every day of the week except for Tuesday.
