General information

Aperi Village Karpathos: The attractive village of Aperi is situated 8 km north of Pigadia and it used to be the capital of Karpathos. The village lies at an altitude of 320 metres, amidst lush green, on the slopes of Mount Hamali at the top of which one can see the remains of the Venetian castle.

Aperi is one of the largest villages of the island with the finest examples of traditional architecture built by the nobles and Greek immigrants who came back from the USA. The development of the village is strongly associated with the structure of the first schools and the first cultural centre which enhances the spiritual aspect of Aperi.

Some of the most important sightseeings of Aperi are the ruins of a tower built in 3,000 BC and can be seen at the north side of the village at Volada as well as the ruins of an ancient temple close to Ahata beach.

In close distance to the village, several paths lead to the pebbled beach of Achata and to the beautiful beaches of Kyra Panagia and Apella (or Ambella). Accommodations, cafes and taverns are also available around the mountainous village of Aperi. During the summer season, locals organize nice festivals with traditional dances and songs.
