Category: Kalymnos Pothia Town

Pothia and Massouri are the main tourist spots in Kalymnos, Personally, I prefered Pothia as it has more things to see. The Venetian Castle and the windmills on the way to the castle were just lovely. I also enjoyed much the workshops of the spongers, it was a unique thing to see that you hardly meet it in other places. A nice man was there and explained us in mediocre English the history and the old process of sponge-diving. I only regreted that I didn't do climbing on Kalymnos, it is a pity I am afraid so much of heights, because the landscpaes were trully wild.

Kalymnos july 2012, Platis Yialos is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kalymnos, located 7 km northwest of Pothia, the island's capital and close to the village of Panormos. The fine beach has soft black sand and azure clean waters. An excellent tavern stands on the beach, serving delightful dishes. From Platis Yialos, the visitor will have the chance to admire the most astonishing sunset of Kalymnos. A mini-market and some restaurants are available near the beach. To reach this paradise, one has to take the local bus from Pothia. In close distance to the north are the beaches of Kandouni and Linaria.

Kalymnos july 2012, Kalamies beach
Kalymnos july 2012, Kalamies is one of the most isolated beaches of Kalymnos located 23 km north west of Pothia, the island's capital. Unlike the rest of Kalymnos beaches, Kalamies provides a unique and relaxing day at the beach. With no tourist facilities but an amazing mountain backdrop, Kalamies reflects the most beautiful part of Kalymnos. The beach uniquely combines the lush greenery that covers the top of the cliffs with the clear blue sky, leaving an everlasting impression on mind. The only sound that you will have in your ears is the water splashing against the rocks. Otherwise, Kalamies is a true paradise without any kind of distractions. Boats of local fishermen and sponge divers interrupt the view momentarily providing a peek into the lives of the people of this sleepy hamlet.
