Diving Festival 2011

For another year, Kalymnos, home of the sponge divers, will host an interesting event commemorating the traditional way of sponge diving. Kalymnos will be drawing attention with the Diving Festival, the most spectacular summer happening on the island. The organizers aim to motivate beginners or experienced divers to visit Kalymnos. The festival offers a full program of scuba diving training and competition with skandalopetra (the rock used by sponge divers to dive in the past), where all ages can participate. There will also be diving exhibitions, museum tours, seminars and contests for underwater photography. Kalymnos is considered one of the most interesting alternative destinations due to the increasing number of diving and climbing tourism and also due to the virgin atmosphere of the island. The festival will take place on July 18th-24th, 2011.
