Kalymnos, like all Greek islands, celebrates many festivals around the year.
Religious feasts & festivals
On the 24th of June, locals celebrate the feast of Agios Ioannis. At dusk, small bonfires are lit on the beaches and the harbours of the island and some people are jumping over them.
On the 27th of July, locals honor the feast day of Saint Panteleimon. A big ceremony followed by a celebration at the monastery dedicated to the healing saint.
On the 15th of August, Kalymnos celebrates one of the highest celebrations in the Christian calendar, the feast day of Holy Virgin. Various ceremonies take place during that day and the day after.
As Kalymnos is considered among the best rock climbing destinations in the world, a Rock Climbing Festival takes place every September. Climbers from many countries come to conquer the mountains of Kalymnos and Telendos, the small neighbouring island.
