The Medieval Castle of Halki Dodecanese: On top of an abrupt and rocky hill above Chorio village, the old capital of Halki stands the medieval castle with its strong high walls. The 14th-century castle was built on the site of an ancient acropolis, by the Knights of Saint John, who had conquered all the Dodecanese islands that time. The castle protected the island and its inhabitants from pirates and enemies, and it was hard to access.
Today, the castle is accessed through a paved path from where the view is just fascinating. The back side of the hill is rough and its slopes lead to the sea. At the foot of the Castle, there are three small chapels dedicated to Virgin Mary, to Saint Nicolas, and to the Holy Trinity.
