Still without a proper medical centre
• Category: News
A Dodecanesian MP of the Socialist Party of Greece, Mr Nikitiades, emerged last week once more the issue of the people of Astypalea, who are still waiting for doctors to staff their Medical Centre. Yet the construction of the Medical Centre of Astypalea is not complete and the few doctors that work on the island lack even some necessary medical material. Moreover, there is not a Pathologist and a Pediatrician on Astypalea and not one doctor wants to go there, as the government says.
So, the 250 children of the island have to go to the Medical Centre of Kalymnos, a neighbouring island, when they get ill. The MP asked the government to give immediate solutions to these problems, as the inhabitants of Astypalea are a fragile community, like the communities in all remote islands, and needs special attention.
