Xynara Tinos: Xynara is a beautiful settlement, located on the northern side of Tinos, 7km from the main town. This mountainous village is built in the 19th century on the slopes of Xombourgo, an impressive steep mountain in the centre of the island. In the past, Xynara used to be the cultural, educational and industrial center of Tinos.
It was also the seat of the Catholic Bishop of the island, with the church of Panagia Rodario as cathedral. In fact, the Mansion of the Catholic Bishop can be seen today in the square of the village and it is very impressive in architecture. Inside the Mansion, known as the Palace of the Despot is an ecclesiastical collection with holy gospels, crosses, rare manuscripts and other interesting exhibits.
