2nd Syros International Film Festival

Jul 26, 2014 — Aug 01, 2014 • Category: Events
This year the Syros International Film Festival will take place from July 26th to August 1st, 2014, in various venues in Hermoupolis, the main town of the island, including Pallas Open Cinema, Tarsanas Shipyards, Asteria Beach Bar and the Art Gallery of Cyclades.

The 1st Syros International Film Festival took place last summer and was the initiative of Jacob Moe and Cassandra Celestin, two frequent summer visitors to the island. The aims of the festival are to promote films that are not represented in large festivals, present the Greek movie production to foreigners and create a new film festival location in Greece.

This year, there will be a contest part for long and short films from Greece, Turkey and the Balkan countries. The prizes will be made of Tinian marble. In particular, this year's festival includes, among others:
- screenings of movies by Elia Kazan and John Cassavetes with parallel photography seminars by Platon Rivellis
- workshop on observational documentary by the director Eva Stefanis
- avant-garde Franco-Greek screenings curated by cinematographer Theo Deliyannis
- artistic exhibitions, and more.

Workshops, exhibitions and other events will be open to the public for free, while for movie screenings there is a symbolic ticket of 2 euros. If you want to donate for the festival or help as a volunteer, kindly check the official website of Syros Film Festival
