The Church of Saint Sostis is situated on the northeastern part of the island, about 5.5 km from Apollonia and 3 km from the settlement of Troulaki. It stands close to the coast and overlooks the deep blue of the Aegean, creating an enchanting picture. The church is characterized by its traditional Cycladic architecture, bearing whitewashed walls and a blue dome. Inside lies a small, wooden iconostasis.
The most remarkable feature of this location is the traces of the ancient silver mines that can still be seen in proximity to the church. Considered the most ancient silver mines in the world, they consist of rugged rock formations and offer visitors some wonderful photo opportunities. Closeby, you will also see an ancient column that adds another layer of historical intrigue to the area.
To reach Agios Sostis from Apollonia or the neighboring Artemonas, you must walk along a designated hiking trail for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you are traveling by car, you can park your vehicle on the main road from Apollonia to Troulaki, close to the smaller church of Agios Minas. From there, it should take you about 30 minutes on foot before you reach the scenic church of Saint Sostis.
